According to Albert Einstein, time is the fourth dimension of the universe, and he says that space and time are connected to each other.
Now let us see what importance this idea has in Islam.
For this, we have to look carefully at an event from the life of Imam Ali (A.S)
Once a man came to Imam Ali (A.S) and asked:
“What is my destiny and what is my choice?”
Imam Ali (A.S) said to him:
“Raise one of your arms in the air.”
The man raised it.
Then he said:
“Now raise the other arm.”
The man raised that as well.
Then he said:
“Lift one of your legs.”
The man lifted it.
Then he said:
“Now lift the other one as well.”
The man replied:
“I cannot do that.”
Imam Ali (A.S) then said:
“This is your destiny, and the rest is your choice.”
Now if we test this event with physics, we can see that actually seven dimensions appear in it. Among these, three are visible and four are invisible.
Let us see what these dimensions are.
Length
Width
Height
These three together form a 3-dimensional object, which in this case is the human being who was present in the event.
When he raised his hand, he touched an invisible dimension, which is air.
We call it air because it is a combination of gases and pressure, and one of those gases is oxygen but its space. If we observe carefully, the man could not lift his second leg while standing, but a human can jump. When a person jumps, he balances in the air for a very short time and then falls back down.
If we analyze this situation, we can see the other invisible dimensions as well.
When he jumped, he used the energy present in his body, which means power. But after a short time he fell back down.
That duration we call time, and the reason he fell down we call gravity, which keeps working against the other six dimensions.
So now we have seven dimensions. Let us look at them again.
Length as a line.
When we add width to it, it becomes a shape.
Then when we add height, it becomes a form.
That form can be a ball, a human, or even the Earth.
But we all move because of difference in size.
The Earth is a 3-dimensional object and we are also 3-dimensional objects. However, we can move on the Earth because we are smaller in size.
For example, an ant can move on a ball, but can a ball move on an ant?
Then God created space, which helps us move from one point to another.
We can consider this space as atmosphere, air, or distance, but not nothingness.
If we say it is nothingness, then how do objects in space travel from one point to another?
We can call it empty, but we cannot call it nothingness.
For example, if we have a box that is empty, what would we call it?
An empty box or a box with nothingness?
Of course we call it an empty box, because the box still contains air.
There would still be some kind of atmosphere. It might be cold or warm, even if there is no oxygen. That's why we known what is the tempature in space and we design space satellite according to that temperature
If you consider air as a moving invisible object, then you are wrong. That is not air; that is energy — the same energy that a man uses when he jumps.
But there is another force that works against it, which is gravity, and that gravity causes friction.
Now let us see what Quran says.
There is a verse where Allah says:
(Qur’an 36:40)
Lā ash-shamsu yanbaghī lahā an tudrika al-qamara wa lā al-laylu sābiqu an-nahār, wa kullun fī falakin yasbaḥūn.
Translation
“It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. Each is floating in its own orbit.”This shows that everything is connected to the will of God.
At the same time, He has given humans some free will.
This is why humans can also fly in the air. You may say humans cannot fly, but when you sit in an airplane you can feel the experience of flying like a bird, even if it is with the help of a machine.
This is why humans discover formulas and knowledge.
If humans could obtain all the energy, they might become a Type 7 civilization, because energy is the main dimension that can control time as well.
Time changes when speed changes, and to reach that speed we need more energy.
But that kind of energy exists only in the will of Allah.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
(Qur’an 2:117)
Arabic
إِذَا قَضَى أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ
Idhā qaḍā amran fa-innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fayakūn.
Translation
“When He decrees a matter, He only says to it ‘Be,’ and it is.”
Here we understand that the will of Allah has such power that it turns intention into reality
Now you can also understand the idea reflected in the film Lucy.
However, we should not run after this kind of power. Instead, one should seek the love of God. History shows that power may give control over things, but things themselves never bring real satisfaction.
If you do not believe this, then look at Adam (A.S) He was in heaven, yet he still desired more, in the form of eternity. He did not ask God for it because he thought that this thing was also within his command. But then a great fall happened — just as a jumping man eventually falls to the ground when he tries to act against the natural order.
But when a person runs, he usually does not fall, because one of his legs always remains in contact with the ground.
This shows that we are all bound to certain destinies, and there are consequences when we act against them.
There may be higher dimensions in the universe that could be unlocked through energy — as suggested in ideas like a Type 7 civilization. However, to experience something similar to that, God has given humans the ability of imagination, where we can do whatever we want in our minds.
Yet we cannot bring those things fully into reality, because God has placed limits through destiny. Those limits can only be changed by the will of God.
And even if such possibilities were to become real in the physical world, it might take billions of years or even more. But if it ever happens, it will also happen only by the will of God.
You may reject this idea, but my question is: how can science be considered absolutely true when it continues to change with new discoveries?
